That is the only way I get a draw unwedge.

If I have somewhat an opening I stick a wooden spoon and tilt it upwards and move whatever is blocking it.

There has to be some sort of screws underneath the draw that you can remove the runners.

If not, pull and pull real hard till whatever is blocking may break.

That’s what I do, when I get soooo mad at it. lol

I have 600 pieces of silver cutlery (to be used at a wedding later this year) we have just finished washing and polishing it and now need a convenient way to store it without getting in all tarnished again.

Any ideas?

Assuming it really is silver, you need to keep it away from sulfur compounds. A silver chest is the usual answer, but there are also fabrics and sulfur-scavenging papers that can be used.

e.g.: http://www.silverguard.com/c-6-pacific-silvercloth.aspx

http://www.silverguard.com/c-9-3m-anti-tarnish-strips.aspx

Don’t know anything about the silverguard company, but I have used both Pacific Silvercloth and the 3M strips for years.

I have recently started using a dishwasher to clean my cutlery and crockery. I have noticed a problem though. Whenever cutlery has been through the dishwasher, it comes out in brown spots. It can’t have anything to do with the quality of the cutlery because they are very high standard. Can anybody tell me why this is happening and how I can prevent it?

Magic Erasers get this off without harming the cutlery. I think this happens when the cutlery has been left too long before washing, or, as someone else said there is some other metal object in the dishwasher that is affecting it.

I’m looking to buy a new set of cutlery (knives and such). What is the best brand to buy? I’ll need steak knives and knives to slice fruit and vegetables.

I replaced my kitchen knives a couple of years ago, and chose Wusthof Grand Prix. They are extremely well balanced for me, and wonderfully sharp. I have no problems keeping the edge perfect with the steel, and they still look and cut like new despite continuous use.

When you select new knives, it is important to shop carefully. The handles must be comfortable for your hands, and the balance is an essential component so you don’t get fatigued. Pay attention to the way your hand feels when you are using a particular knife the way it is intended–for example, a paring knife is typically held off the board to do hand work, whereas a chef knife spends most of it’s time on the board.

Based upon information and recommendations from Cooks Illustrated Magazine, I have also added a couple of Forschner Fibrox knives to my collection. These knives are made by Victorinox, who also make Swiss Army knives. Forschner Fibrox are significantly less costly that the Wusthof (they aren’t forged) and have the composite handles that are easy to clean and don’t slip out of your hand. I have been so pleased with them, I got my daughter a whole set of Forschner Fibrox for her birthday and she loves them.

Look for them on CutleryandMore.com. You can order just the knives you want instead of getting a set with blades you may not use. Most people like a 8" chef knife, paring knife, bread knife, and 8" slicer, and a steel. I would also add a bird’s beak paring knife and a 7" sankotu, and a tomato knife. The Forschner kitchen shears are also wonderful.

If you have a few hundred dollars to spend, get Wusthof—if not, the Forschner Fibrox are an excellent choice.

p.s. NEVER put your kitchen knives in a dishwasher!!!!!!!!!!
