Brown Spots on Cutlery After Dishwashing?
I have recently started using a dishwasher to clean my cutlery and crockery. I have noticed a problem though. Whenever cutlery has been through the dishwasher, it comes out in brown spots. It can’t have anything to do with the quality of the cutlery because they are very high standard. Can anybody tell me why this is happening and how I can prevent it?
Magic Erasers get this off without harming the cutlery. I think this happens when the cutlery has been left too long before washing, or, as someone else said there is some other metal object in the dishwasher that is affecting it.

Have you added salt and rinse aid to the machine? Could make the difference.

Its rust and probabaly from something which is not made of stainless steel in your dishwasher. I always use finish quantum and don’t get that problem but the easiest way is empty the dishwasher straight away when its finished and wipe your cutlery with a teatowel.

It sounds like rust to me! I too have a couple of pieces dad did that and my cutlery is also of good quality, but when I took a close look at them ,I have noticed that there is a crack in the finish and this is what causes these spots, to stop this from happening there are 2 solutions , if it’s still under warranty return it to the store , if not ,don’t put them in the dishwasher anymore . the heat and detergent will damage them even more .
