Yeah, the guys above me are right. The MSR Whisperlite International can burn just about anything from white gas to diesel and unleaded and all the way up to liquid rocket fuel (probably not, but the MSR rep joked about it). But where i stray from the other answers is where you should buy it. I urge you to not buy on ebay or another used place. You don't know it's history and cannot be certain of how safe it will be (what is working or malfunctioning). You can buy that stove online at places like REI.com or at your local REI store. If you must buy used, and you live near an REI, check into thier used gear sale they should have 3 to 4 times a year. Those stoves are used but have been checked over and are assured of being in working order. Hope this helps. Good luck!
References :
I have worked at REI for a few years now!

Try searching the web for beer can stoves. I fly a lot with my camp gear and for some reason they like to confiscate my stove. No fuel and in a box but they take it anyway. So now I just make up a new stove after I get off the plane. Using gasoline (petrol) with an open stove like this is dangerous It can flash and the fumes travel hit a cigarette and explode. In survival school we would put a very (very very small) small can of gas near and above a fire behind the instructor. It would wake up the back row when it flashed. Be safe an injury can really mess up a trip.
References :
MSR Whisperlite International is a little more modern. You might want to check it out at my link below.

You can buy it brand NEW on sale. If it breaks or you dont like it you can return it to backcountry no questions asked! Its a great place to buy gear and try it out, if it fails to your standards just send it back for a refund or an upgraded model.
References :
http://www.backcountry.com/store/CAS0366/MSR-WhisperLite-International-Multi-Fuel-Stove.html
